McGill University and the UK Biobank Limited have signed a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) that allows McGill researchers to use the UK Biobank Resource for the following project:

Approved Research Project UKBiobank Application 45551: Mechanistic modelling of neurodevelopment, neuroplasticity and neurodegeneration
Applicant Principal Investigator Alan Evans, Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery, McGill University
Eligible Time period 6 years - December 17, 2019 to December 17, 2025

User Consent & Acknowledgement of Material and Data Transfer Agreement Terms and Conditions

Reference Documents:

In order to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of the MTA, BEFORE accessing UK Biobank Resources, McGill requires that any and all McGill personnel or students sign a User Consent & Acknowledgement form so that they are fully aware of the Institution’s obligations to the UK Biobank.

Specifically, the UK Biobank Resources (material and data) can only be used as follows:

  • To conduct research as described in the Approved Application
  • Within the timeframe of the signed MTA
  • By the Applicant Principal Investigator and the related Applicant Researchers (whether funded or not) who are McGill personnel or students (e.g. principal investigator, co-investigators, graduate and undergraduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research associates, technical and administrative staff). Non-McGill personnel or students are not allowed to access the materials or data.

The User Consent & Acknowledgement form will need to be completed and signed by each member of research teams who will be accessing the material or data.

The Applicant Principal Investigator, supported by the Data and Oversight Committee, will review all requests for data access related to this project.

I will not transfer any data or materials received from the UK Biobank to anyone outside of McGill or anyone within McGill who has not completed this form and has been approved.

I have obtained all necessary compliance approvals for my research. (If Research Ethics Board approval was required and obtained for your particular research, please upload a copy below as a Supporting Document)

I will declare any new algorithms for data interpretation to the UK Biobank. This includes declaration of any repositories where analysis codes are being stored or maintained. Such repositories must not contain any UK Biobank participant-level data.

Research results and results data will be returned to UK Biobank – this includes methodology, any assay data and derived data.

I will provide UK Biobank with a copy of any patents whose claims cover, or are intended to cover, an Applicant Generated Invention within two months of their publication

The UK Biobank and NeuroHub will be acknowledged in publications & other reports of the research, and any publications will be sent to the McGill coordinator a minimum of 3 week before public disclosure to ukbiobank.neurohub@mcin.ca.

Please respond to the following questions and provide supporting documents as requested (Please note summaries of research projects will be shared with other approved users to help identify opportunities for collaboration):

My research fits within the scope of the project defined in the Approved Research Project:

Please Note: If the research is outside of the area of the Approved Research Project, NeuroHub will review and assess whether a formal request to the UK Biobank has to be submitted.

My intended use of the UK Biobank data will likely result in development of new algorithms for data interpretation:

I expect to use the following processing pipelines for analysis:
